Forte's unique keyboard courses are renowned for making learning music fun. Children enjoy the wide variety of music. From classical to rock’n’roll, in no time you will be amazed at how much they can do. Theory, listening, reading, composing, and all musical skills are developed in a comprehensive approach so your child will develop into a young musician. These keyboard courses give students foundation music skills, which are also excellent preparation for playing in a school band or orchestra.

Music Is Fun

Music Is Fun is our introductory keyboard course. Through games and activities your child will learn about the keyboard, where each note lives and through songs and finger prep activities your child will learn to play these notes on the keyboard.

Elroy, (a beautiful puppet) comes to life in the lesson each week to assist in the learning process. And there is Elmagog the frog, who lives on the black note lilypads, Mick the Monk and a host of other friends to meet along the way to introduce your child in an age appropriate and enjoyable way to music. And most importantly it's lots of FUN!

Junior Keys

Junior Keys Course (JK) is offered for beginner students younger than 7 years old. Children not only learn to play piano but unlike traditional music training also gain a good grounding in all other musical skills including:

    * ear training for pitch (ability to identify musical notes by ear)
    * music theory (understanding the symbols used in music)
    * music reading
    * composition
    * keyboard harmony (the underlying chord structures, patterns and systems that all music is built on).

These are no ordinary piano lessons! Our multi-sensory approach has been shown to have enormous spin off effects on a child's ability to focus and concentrate at school, as well as developing self confidence and self esteem. This approach engages the whole body in the learning experience and is lots of FUN!

Piano Keys

Piano Keys (PK) is designed as a beginner level course for older students (8 -11 years). This age group learns differently and generally moves through the course material more quickly than younger students do. The Piano Keys course provides grounding in all other musical skills.

Each of our keyboard courses are designed so that your child is acquiring new skills as they move through our courses. For this reason, we try to start one or two new classes for each age group (3.5-5, 4.5-7 and 8-11) at the beginning of each term. If your child has already had some music lessons, we can arrange for one of our teachers to assess which of our existing classes will be suitable for their level of skill.

Creative Keys

Children completing Junior Keys and Piano Keys move to this next level and may also beging preparing for Piano exams at this level, whilst still enjoying all the benefits of a class. By the end of Creative Keys, students can expect to be at the end of Grade 2 level.
